What is coaching?

A coach will help you to appraise key aspects of your life to identify where change might be required and, most importantly, support you to set out practical steps to implement these changes. Your coach will have the time and space to focus entirely on you and create an environment in which you can be completely open and honest, more so than you can be with family and friends because we are not here to judge in any way, simply to help you to explore your own life and identify meaningful goals. Then the work begins – we will map out an overarching plan of action to move you from where you are now to where you want to be. A coach will support and guide you through this process, but never lead or influence. The work will be your own, as will the achievement

Life Coaching

Many of us manage life’s juggling act day by day, dealing with whatever needs to be tackled professionally or personally as challenges arise. At the end of the day we can feel satisfied that we did what was required (somehow); everyone is reasonably happy and nothing catastrophic has happened. Phew! However, living day to day can prevent us from focussing on the long game and seeing the bigger picture; it often becomes habit, preventing us from ‘commanding’ rather than simply coping. Working one to one with an individual as a private client, a coach is there to act as a ‘thinking partner’, supporting you through the process of examining key aspects of your life, be it personal or professional, and working to achieve the feeling of contentment and wellbeing that comes when you are in control of your life and working towards your goals

Executive Coaching

Also referred to as workplace or business coaching, executive coaching is generally offered by an employer. The coaching partnership can effectively improve performance in the business setting, often focusing on areas such as career transition, interpersonal and professional communication, executive presence, enhancing strategic thinking, dealing with conflict and team building. A range of research studies support the positive impact of executive coaching on workplace performance.

Identifying your needs

The first step in your journey to a more fulfilling and contented life may be to really think about what it is you need at this stage. If you're at all unsure about the coaching process or whether it is right for you please contact me to discuss further as part of a free pre-coaching consultation.

A Coach

The role of a coach is to help clients to hear themselves more clearly and gain a greater sense of purpose. Through powerful, probing questioning, a coach enables clients to discover their own answers and begin defining and prioritize their own actions. A coach will support and guide you through this process, but never lead or influence

A Mentor

Mentoring tends to be a long-term relationship between a more experienced/qualified person and their mentee who is seeking help, advice and guidance in a specific area. A good mentor will provide answers to your professional questions; a good coach will provide insightful questions from which your own answers will be uncovered

A Counselor

Counselors (or therapists) have specialized training to address personal or psychological issues that may be the underlying cause of a dysfunctional or debilitating condition. As such, counseling primarily deals with the past to the present, whereas coaching looks at the present and the future. A person in need of healing is not yet ready for coaching and fundamental issues will need to be addressed before the coaching process can begin

A Cheerleader

We all need people around us that can give us a little ‘rah rah go you’ from time to time, but ultimately where does the responsibility for your life lie? The answer is that it sits firmly with you. We can’t blame others for our disappointments, or expect them to be responsible for our happiness. Value your cheerleaders, but don’t rely on them – the key is to learn to be your own cheerleader

Coaching Themes

The first step in your journey to a more fulfilling and contended life might be to really think about what it is you need at this stage.

Widely used in business, strategic planning and implementation can also help us to identify and achieve our own personal goals. There are many definitions of strategy, but simply it is a method or plan chosen to bring about a desired future. The coaching process will enable you to develop a strategic plan, identify an inspirational goal and map out tactics to ensure it is achieved

Finding it hard to knuckle down to making that potentially life-changing decision? If you’re not in the driving seat the chances are the decision will be taken out of your hands and you can find that your life is a fait accompli. A coach can give you the time and space to take an in-depth look at the decision in hand, ensure it is the right one for you and work through the steps necessary to implement it

You may know what you need to do to achieve greater contentment and fulfillment, but where on earth do you start? Mapping out and implementing an achievable action plan with the support of a coach will mean you can effectively progress towards your goals

Stress is a regular part of life and it’s impossible to eliminate completely, but understanding and controlling stress can be key to constructive management.

We all find ourselves overwhelmed by work and life at some point and your career and personal goals can feel conflicting; working towards identifying meaningful goals in both areas and ensuring balance across all aspects of your life will enable you to relax and enjoy your achievements

Perhaps your life just doesn’t feel quite right, but identify what needs to change can be challenging when you’re dealing with the demands of day to day life. A coach can give you the space to work through aspects of your life or work and use powerful questioning to identify key areas where progress or change will result in greater fulfillment

The demands of our lives and those we care for can mean that we lose perspective on ourselves and the goals that are most important to us. Open and honest communication with a coach can help you to identify how best to ensure your own goals are achieved, whilst continuing to be mindful of the needs of others

Self-doubt can be a great limiter; gaining an understanding of the origins of these doubts is key to eradicating limiting beliefs and fulfilling your true potential

Identifying ‘stretch’ goals and developing a tactical plan for their achievement is not only greatly empowering but will also ensure you reach your optimum performance and continue to challenge yourself on an ongoing basis

Periods of significant change are challenging and unsettling; the coaching process enables clear thinking and proactive management of the consequences of change to ensure you remain in control

Coaching Benefits

About me

I bring a wealth of life and business experience to the coaching process, providing personal and professional coaching to enable you to achieve your full potential. I focus on transformational coaching, supporting you to identify meaningful goals and practical actions to ensure you have a clear plan to move you from where you are now to where you want to be. I strongly believe that identifying clear goals enables us to successfully take control of our lives without becoming consumed by the here and now. Take a look at the bigger picture and keep your eyes on the prize that is most important to you.

Professionally I started my career in medical research, later becoming a medical writer/communications consultant and ultimately working my way to a senior management, board level position in a consultancy supporting the pharmaceutical industry. During my career I have specialised in start-up companies, establishing and developing high performing teams and have focussed on mentoring, training and management. My change of direction to coaching builds on these skills and the experience that I have gained over many years, as well as applying many of the principles of strategic planning and implementation that I used in the business environment.

Personally, I am fortunate enough to have a very full, demanding and satisfying life. It has, however, not been without its twists and turns and I have navigated my way through significant change and key decision-making over the years. I therefore have a wealth of experience behind me to support others through milestones in their own lives.
